I'll look forward to joining the next reunion. I think
the Dayton idea is good, but in my heart I've always
wanted to return to Harlingen in July and reinact that
march from supply to the barracks wearing that 'horse
blanket' overcoat and then sit in front of one of those
huge fans at the ends of halls. Maybe even run the buffer
and clean some gig rails.

After Aviation Cadets, I went to the back seat
of the F-101B, stationed at Malmstrom AFB, Montana. Went
to pilot training with the Montana ANG in 1965. Flew the
F-102 for 5 years with the guard and 12 years as a 727
co-pilot for Continental Airlines. I was out of flying
for 3 years when a guy name Frank Lorenzo made a career
change for many pilots at Continental. I am now retired from UPS
spending the last 8 years as a 747 Captain until I reached age 60. I
went back to the panel of the 727 and flew until July of 2007. I now
referee high school football in the fall and have completed 3 years as a
ref.

It brought
back a lot of memories. I started out in 61-09 B3
but washed back somewhere around Second Class and
graduated in 61-11, so I don't qualify as an
alumnus. Anyhow, without going into detail, I
was active duty 8 years, two air Guard Units, AF Reserve,
now retired Reserve O-5. In real life I am an
Administrative Law Judge with the Social Security Admin
in Atlanta.

After leaving Harlingen, I went to Navigator-Bombardier
school at Mather AFB, and then to. Dover AFB, Delaware
where I flew C124s and C141s as a navigator
and instructor navigator. Met my wife Lillian at Dover,
where she was serving as an Air Force nurse and later
Flight Nurse (when we got married, she was a Captain
while I was still a 2nd Lieutenant). Served in Viet Nam
as a Logistics Advisor to the VNAF at Bien Hoa. Shortly
after we got married, Lillian left the Air Force to stay
at home and be a mom. We have two children. Our a son is
with the Lord (he drowned while a teenager in high
school). Our daughter Karen is still single. I had served
previously in the Army as an enlisted man (E-5) so was
able to retire early in 1977 as a Major. After leaving
the Air Force I got a Ph.D. in Counseling and Psychology
and have worked as a Family Counselor, Counseling Center
Director, Seminary Professor, and Church Administrator. I am presently
(almost retired) working one day a week counseling families and doing
some freelance writing.

Went to Travis AFB after graduation to fly
aircraft and met my wife there. Good move all in all! Moved on to high
flying RB-57F aircraft for a year just before going to pilot training.
Got an F-111 out of UPT and got to work with some real gee whiz
navigation and bombing systems in the right seat. Where was all this
stuff when I was trying to find Wake Island with nothing but a
sextant?!? With some fighter experience, USAF decided I was needed as a
FAC in Viet Nam. Spent a year working for the Australian Army. Fresh
beer and it was always very cold. Returned to fly KC-135's and after 3
years, back into F-111's for six more years, and then to the perfect
retirement assignment; five years as the Air Force Liaison Officer to
the Civil Air Patrol in Richmond, Va. I retired after 24 years, 5 months
and 25 days (but, who counts?) to take a job flying Citations for a
large company in Richmond. Retied from that job after 18 years with the
last five as Chief Pilot and took another flying job with a different
company, flying a Pilatus PC-12. I have since fully retired and we are
living in sunny central California; the land of "fruits and nuts."

LAST QF-102 on 27 Jun, 1986, remote controlled it on 30
Jun, 1986. Went to White Sands Missile Range as Ops Mgr

with Tracor as safety pilot/remote controller for the
QF-106 development program. Came back to Florida to work
for a company developing manned and remote controlled
surveillance platforms for anti-drug work and other uses
(don't ask who). Went back to Tracor for the F-4 Phantom
II drone conversion as Ops chief and pilot/controller.

If anyone's interested: After we left Harlingen a
whole bunch of us were assigned to the 552nd AEW and C Wing at McClellan
AFB, Calif. Flew the normal coastal patrol in the old "Super Connie"
{RC121} until my crew got assigned to "Operation Dominic" in the summer
of 1962. This was the nuclear testing in the Pacific. {if you are
interested, you can look it up on the internet}. That is when we blew up
the Van Allen belt in the Ionosphere. Remember the hole in the
atmosphere that suddenly appeared over the pacific in the late 60s early
70s. Then the Cuban crisis started and our crew and many of our fellow
classmates went to McCoy AFB Fla. and flew 50 to 100 ft off the the deck
and 15 miles off the coast of Cuba monitoring the U2s.
When we got back from Florida in early 1963, had orders to Viet Nam.
{Where's that?? What's an RB57D?? When I found out where Viet Nam was,
there I was!!! Then I found out what an RB57D was!!! {only 3 were ever
modified like this} It was a twin jet bomber that had been modified to
carry the the very latest camera systems including Infra-red. No guns!
It also had an ejection seat {What's That??} and NO NAV. AIDS!!! Our
little group was called DET 1, 33RD TAC GROUP. {"We were Advisers"??}.
Flew 114 combat missions both north and south. [STRESS ] Got accepted to
Pilot Training.
Returned to Waco, James Connally AFB, in 1964 as an instructor while
waiting for a pilot training class. Got married. Taught some of the
last classes of Aviation Cadets. In 1966 went to Craig AFB for pilot
training class 67D. After graduation I was assigned to the 917th Air
Refueling SQDN at Dyess AFB, Tx. flying KC135s. Back to theViet Nam War
for 3 to 6 months tours every year from 1967 to 1973. Had 3 daughters.
Flew another 261 combat support missions [STRESS] along with SAC's
chrome dome, Alerts, etc. Finished up as the SQDN. Instructor Pilot.
Got out in 6/73. {Long story}??. Went to Ross Perot's salesmanship
school to sell stocks and bonds. Market crashed!! Sold real estate for
the
next 15 years. In the 80s the Market crashed, and so did I. Got
divorced. Went to truck driving school. Got a back injury on the job.
Got workman's comp. Finished undergrad. Went to Law School. Graduated in
1997 at age 59 and went to work for the Dept. of Justice.
Working for the Fed. exacerbated the stress. Retired. Went to the VA.
and they told me about PTSD. Finally found out what caused
all those episodes. Went from 5 Xanax's a day to 1 with the help of the
VA. Now, I live near 2 of my daughters, my grandchildren and
my ex-wife, Jean, {we get along great, but we can't live together},

I left Harlingen and got married to Evelyn, a young lady
I had known from the second grade. She was finishing up
nursing school and we honeymooned on the drive to
California where I served in the AEW&C program at
McClellan AFB for the next 5 1/2 years. I left
there for my first tour in SEA as a nav in C-123's
assigned to the 309th Air Commando Sqdn at Tan Son Nhut
AFB in Saigon. I returned stateside to a pilot
training slot at Laughlin AFB in beautiful downtown Del
Rio TX! ARGH!! What an experience that
town was.... I returned to SEA upon graduation as a
pilot in the EC121's, flying out of Korat Thailand.
I garnered about 1,000 hours combat time with 79
"out of country" missions there.
Interesting to say the least. Returning to the states, I
began a tour at Mather AFB flying student nav's all over
the west coast. That tour lasted about 4 1/2
years. Never did get in the 727's though. I
was assigned to Eglin AFB as a sqdn Commander of a Field
Maintenance squadron and really enjoyed that.
Unfortunately, I was riffed there but managed to finish
my twenty right here. I did retire as an 0-4.
After retirement, I spent some
time doing sports officiating (football, basketball,
baseball and softball) for many years. I have also
served twice as a deputy sheriff in this county. I
have done a little local flying but the AF really spoils
you ~ it does get expensive just boring holes. Evelyn and
I are planning a trip to Europe in the spring. It
will be our first time to Europe. We do spend some
time up in Tennessee at year's end just to unwind and
kick back. We have a son in California and a
daughter in Mississippi. A grandson and grand daughter in
CA and two grandsons by our daughter, one in MS and
one at Tinker AFB in OKC. The grandson in CA
has a great future in baseball. He has already
recieved serveral calls and invites from colleges like
Arizona, UNLV, Cal Poly, Sacramento State and several
others. I have made several trips out there to
watch him play. Well friends, this is
getting to be a lengthy letter but it has a lot to cover.

years). We have two daughters one is in
theater in New Jersey and the other is an internal
